I have been told I am mentally ill for asserting the facts cited in this episode that correlates systemic poverty and effective, socially relevant mobility. This is on par with claims that the purchasing power of Whites are no different than Black people. Attempts to work with the SBA and SCORE have been fruitless with reasons for refusing to support my startups as ridiculous as the name was objectionable.
Good organizing and outreach from colleagues helped change my mind about the need for a union at Vox Media specifically. But so did approaching the research on unions the same way I would any topic in my reporting: by looking at the data and talking to experts.
The issue with Google’s culture is most succinctly summarized in a quote from former Google CEO and Alphabet Chairman Eric Schmidt . . .
“You need these aberrant geniuses because they’re the ones that drive, in most cases, the product excellence,” Schmidt told Wired in an interview earlier this year.
There is nothing crazier than African-Americans and other minorities who believe in the myth and shame people by the hundreds of millions excluded from the dream by design.
